Tally Counter

Multi-item tally counter with custom labels, increment, decrement and reset

What is it and how does it work?

A tally counter is a simple digital clicker for counting things — tap to add one, tap to subtract, reset when you are done — and this one handles several counts at once, each with its own label. It is the on-screen version of the handheld clicker used to count people through a door or laps around a track. Whenever you need to keep a running count without losing track in your head, a tally counter does the remembering for you, one tap at a time.

The multi-item part is what makes it genuinely useful for real situations. Counting one thing is easy; counting several at the same time — different categories of inventory, votes for several options, attendees by type, or scores in a game — is exactly where mental counting falls apart. Custom labels keep each counter clearly identified, and increment, decrement and reset controls let you correct a miscount or start fresh. This tool runs in your browser, so you can keep a set of counters on screen with nothing to install.

Common use cases

Frequently asked questions

Can I count more than one thing at a time?

Yes — that is the point of a multi-item counter. You can run several counters side by side, each with its own custom label, so you can tally different categories simultaneously without mixing them up, which a single counter or counting in your head cannot do reliably.

What if I tap too many times by mistake?

Each counter has a decrement control as well as increment, so you can subtract one to correct an over-count without resetting everything. The reset button is there for when you want to clear a counter back to zero and start a fresh count.

Will my counts be saved if I close the page?

A tally counter tracks a live session, so whether counts persist depends on the tool. To be safe with an important count, note the totals before closing or reloading, since clearing the page or browser data can reset an in-progress tally.

Why use this instead of a physical clicker?

A physical clicker counts only one thing and can be lost or miscounted with no way to check. A digital multi-counter handles several labelled counts at once, lets you correct mistakes by decrementing, and is always available on a device you already have, with nothing to carry.
